Complete mobility.

With its “Complete mobility” approach, Siemens offers sustainable mobility solutions that sensibly network the various transportation systems in order to transport people and goods with greater efficiency, safety and environmental friendliness. For this purpose, Siemens has concentrated all its competencies in the new Mobility Division – from operating systems for railways and road traffic, traction power supplies and rolling stock for mass transit, regional and mainline services, to airport logistics and postal automation.

Transportation and logistics are by far the most important infrastructural tasks and are also decisive for the competitiveness of cities, regions and countries. The importance of mobility solutions having a minimum impact on natural resources and the environment will continue to rise. Market structures and demands will continue to change, such as the transition from national rail operators to globally active mobility and logistics service providers. The future market calls for intelligent, integrated solutions that will enable better and more efficient utilization of existing transportation infrastructures.

Siemens’ North American presence in transportation started in 1975 with a joint venture with Duewag Corp. to complete the Edmonton light rail vehicle order. In 1980, San Diego became the first Siemens U.S. order. After early assembly activities in Pittsburgh, PA, the U.S. vehicle assembly facility moved to Sacramento, CA, to better serve a growing light rail market on the West Coast.

Between 1992 and 1995, two new vehicle assembly buildings were built at French Road with over 190,000 sq. ft. of subassembly, vehicle assembly and office space. In 2006, Siemens completed its carshell manufacturing center, which included an additional 20,000 sq. ft., for a paint and finishing center.
