The future of rail has arrived

Destination Digital

Visit Siemens Mobility at InnoTrans or join us digitally.

Our journey began back in April with the build-up to InnoTrans: Destination Digital. On the way, we’ve introduced you to a wealth of inspiring topics from how to optimize lifecycle costs to achieving 100% system availability – all with pioneering digital solutions that are setting new standards for our industry.

Now it’s time to connect our digital exchange with face-to-face communication. InnoTrans 2022 will open its doors and we’ll finally be able to show you our products and solutions in person at our more than 80 showcase exhibits.

Speakers:

Christiane Bausback

CEO / Head of Design

N+P Innovation Design GmbH

Tom Kutscher

Head of Sales & Bids / International Projects for Highspeed and Intercity Trains

Siemens Mobility GmbH

Location: International Design Forum, CityCube Berlin, Level 3, M1-3

Abstract:

“The” passenger doesn’t exist in today’s highly flexible and multi-dimensional travel world. We need trains which work for everyone – for different people with different needs and expectations. To overcome today’s passenger pain points we need to look forward and predict the future. We believe in co-creation between operators, passenger interest groups, manufacturers and designers to develop smart solutions which cater to the needs and expectations of all passengers. Let’s take a walk through the highspeed train of tomorrow.

Speaker:

Michael Frankenberg

CEO Siemens Mobility Software

Location: Speaker's Corner Messe Berlin

Speaker:

Wendelin Zöpfl

Project Manager 5G/6G, Incubation, Innovation

Siemens Mobility GmbH

Location: palais.Berlin

Abstract:

The session highlights the potentials and challenges of the digitalization of the railroad sector through the introduction of the mobile communications standard 5G. On the basis of short impulses, network operators and network equipment suppliers will give an overview of the technological possibilities of 5G in the railroad industry (including virtual networks and services) as well as the further standardization and evolution of 5G. A look at the bigger picture shows how far the rail industry has come in terms of digitization compared to other industries.

Speaker:

Matthias Hofmann

Program Manager Assisted and Autonomous Driving of Trams

Siemens Mobility GmbH

Location: Hub 27, Beta 6-7

Abstract:

Since 2018, Siemens Mobility has been testing an autonomous tram in real traffic at ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH – demonstrated live at InnoTrans 2018. The first commercially usable application on the way to autonomous driving on the rails is now on the horizon: automated depot operation.

A consortium consisting of Siemens Mobility GmbH, ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM), and Codewerk GmbH began its joint research on a fully automated tram depot in October 2019. The three-year project is investigating how time-consuming service processes can be carried out automatically. For this purpose, in a real-life implementation in the depot of ViP Potsdam, an autonomous tram and the digital integration of depot facilities are combined to form a holistic planning and automation process.

The story

Destination Digital

In 2022, we make digital solutions part of today’s reality.

Rail is seen as the game-changer in combating climate change.

How will we manage it?

We’re confident digitalization will play a major role. That’s why this year’s motto is “Destination Digital”. Because meeting the growing demand for rail doesn’t necessarily mean you need to make large investments in new infrastructure. Improving your existing one may be even more effective.

These are the main advantages we see digitalization enabling:

·     Optimized lifecycle costs with digital train solutions

·     100% system availability

·     Maximized network capacity

·     Optimized customer experience and processes

We are leading this transformation with our new open digital business platform Siemens Xcelerator, helping train and rail network operators deliver added value across their core processes.

Optimize the lifecycle costs of your rail business

Our trains and infrastructure solutions come with built-in connectivity and services that can be activated on demand. This new generation of intelligence enhances the experience and safety for your passengers and staff, while reducing costs and accidents, and delivering higher added value to your rail assets.

Know your rail system is always running

As trains are equipped for the digital future, the demand for holistic digital asset management for rail systems increases. This transformation enables a shift from reactive response and maintenance to data-driven decisions that increase the capacity of entire fleets for up to 100% system availability.

Get the most out of your network

Passenger and freight traffic are growing faster than the rail networks. By moving existing rail infrastructure to the cloud and enabling automated driving, network capacity on existing lines can be increased. At the same time, energy consumption decreases and operations become more sustainable.

Improve your passenger experience and optimize your operations with the power of our software

Software solutions will be a game-changer for operators, delivering improved utilization, availability and interoperability. At the same time, your customers can benefit from a seamless travel experience from the first to the last mile. Welcome to the future: mobility as a service.

Our open digital business platform Siemens Xcelerator

Connect trains, infrastructure, operators, and passengers virtually in order to optimize rail traffic in a sustainable and seamless way.
