Get the most from your points
Stay on track
With increasing train speeds, instability in the ballast results in higher levels of wear and tear. Deterioration of the track geometry also reduces the level of traveling comfort and can even impair safety. Innovative point operating systems from Siemens Mobility provide your passengers with a better ride, your trains with more stability, and your points with a longer service life. These well-proven, high-quality products offer more economical operations by way of lower lifecycle costs, longer maintenance intervals, and overall increased train throughput.

Low lifecycle and maintenance costs
The exceptionally high level of reliability and long intervals between servicing translate into lower operating costs over the entire lifecycle.

High availability
Due to the high quality of the components you have come to expect from Siemens Mobility, our point operating machines ensure uninterrupted operation for maximum availability.

Universal applications
Our point operating systems feature a high degree of compatibility with existing operating modules thanks to a wide range of variations for almost any application. They are also easy to assemble and install.

High durability
With a robust and compact design, our rugged point machines require little maintenance and thus offer a long and reliable operating life.
Externally locked point machines
Switchguard ELS 710 – Universally applicable
The Siemens Mobility Switchguard ELS 710 can be used to operate points of every type and gauge, making it suitable for external lockings and derailers. In addition to a compact, modular and robust design, its short overall length is a major advantage in confined conditions, for example in tunnels. The latest materials and permanently lubricated components ensure long inspection and maintenance intervals and thus, low lifecycle costs.
Switchguard S 700 K
The Switchguard S 700 K point machine achieves a high level of operating reliability on account of its robust and compact design. Tried and tested in tens of thousands of installations worldwide, it has proven itself with a durability that results in a long service life of one million throwing operations. Maximum availability is further achieved by long maintenance intervals and short out-of-service periods.
Switchguard S700K-C
The Switchguard S700K-C point machine from Siemens Mobility can be used with all points with external locking and, under certain conditions, with points without external locking. Derailers and swingnoses can also be operated using this point machine. Besides, the S700K-C is suitable for the operation of latching and locking equipment with special safety requirements in industrial railways.
Switchguard 84M MkIII
The Switchguard 84M MkIII point machine series can be used for mainline or yard operations. It is readily configured for trailable or non-trailable switch operation with rail head locking, and incorporates dual detection within the point machine. The Switchguard 84M MkIII series has compact overall dimensions and can be conveniently handled in the field. It mounts on two sleepers.
Switchguard S 700
Simple to maintain thanks to its rugged design, the Switchguard S 700 offers a high degree of availability due to high-quality components that perform 500,000 throwing operations over the lifecycle. It is easy to install: both right- and left-hand mounting is possible, even where available space is restricted. The fastest throwing can be less than 1.0 second.
Internally locked point machines
Switchguard M23 A MkIII
Based on the original Switchguard M23 point machine manufactured in Australia since 1977, this machine is developed for mining railways and is designed for heavy haul and remote installations. It offers high reliability under the most extreme conditions.
Featuring a unique Siemens design, the Switchguard M23A MkIII offers 6 monthly inspection/12 monthly maintenance intervals as well as reduced MTTR, less lubrication, and quick part/function replacement.
Switchguard Bsg 9
The Switchguard BSG9 is suitable for points of all types and gauges for all interlocking types, including mechanical and electromechanical. It can be used on main lines, light-rail, rapid transit lines, and high-speed lines. The various versions differ in being trailable or non-trailable, in the type of motor current, throwing stroke, throwing force, and throwing time. A high level of reliability, long maintenance intervals, and good durability with 500,000 throwing operations allow for low lifecycle costs.
Switchguard S 600
This internal locking represents an effective solution combining a high level of availability with well-proven components and technology for reliable operation. Its robust, compact design contributes to a long service life of one million throwing operations. The machine conforms to SIL 4.
Lockings and detectors
The Switchguard CKA family – Safety lock
The Switchguard CKA pawl lock is an external locking and ensures a force-locking and form-locking connection between the point blade and the stock rail. Benefits in installation: The pre-assembled component parts are installed on site without any adjustment work. No bores are required in the stock rails. The switch blades are usually already provided with bores by the switch supplier. Thanks to the use of aluminum bronze alloy, the pawl point lock requires only minimal maintenance.
Switchguard JM2
The JM2 end position detector is suitable for passenger special line turnout, etc., which can check the state of the closure switch rail and the exclusion switch rail at the same time. Depending on the installation location on the track, the JM2 can be divided into JM2-L two-side-mounted type and JM2-Z middle-mounted type.
Switchguard HLM MkII
Offering very low power consumption, these detectors are factory set and thus require no internal adjustment. Maintenance is reduced to an annual inspection.
Switchguard ELP 319
Well proven and mature, the Switchguard ELP 319 End Position Detector identifies closed and open point blades, point opening, the locking function, trailing operations and gauge narrowing.
A low maintenance and tampable solution
Switchguard ITS 700 – Major benefits
- Adjustable locking unit – available for any rail profile and a wide range of turnout types
- Optimized access to all major components including locking elements
- Reduced amount of spare parts in stock, as same locking units cover many different turnout types
- Use of low-maintenance locking and point machine components
- Low lifecycle costs in combination with high availability
- Enhancement of the track geometry quality as machine tamping is also possible in the area around the locking
- Shorter track closure and on-site installation times thanks to the option of pre-assembly at the turnout factory
- Interface compatibility of the control system with the existing point controller in the interlocking
Compatibility
The Siemens Mobility Switchguard CKJ locking unit is used to operate and secure points of every type and gauge. It has also been designed to be installed in heavy turnouts covering axle loads up to 40 tons. It is compatible with different rail profiles, particularly all common profiles including UIC, BS and AREMA.
Adjustability
The locking device is adjustable for different running edges and positions in large turnouts. Convenient handling is guaranteed by easy accessibility of adjustable components.
Installation time
The complete point operating system is pre-assembled in the factory. This makes on-site installation easy, with little training required. The same applies to all maintenance activities as well as to all visual inspections.
Hollow sleeper
The hollow sleeper (which replaces a conventional steel, wooden or concrete sleeper) houses the point machine, the adjustable locking unit (CKJ), as well as the drive and detector rods. Depending on the component layout, the hollow sleeper can be used either as a point-tip lock or as a mid-blade lock. The number of spare parts to be stocked can be reduced to a minimum as parts are interchangeable between all variants.
One of the most critical railway infrastructure components
Switchguard Smart Points Diagnostics – How you stand to benefit
1. Performance monitoring creates transparency
Cloud-based performance monitoring enables advantages such as more transparency and understanding of processes, fast troubleshooting in case a fault occurs, visualization of process changes, as well as notification in case of failure or other incidents requiring attention.
