Maximum availability supported by Rail Service Center in Munich-Allach

When a locomotive is out of operation, it affects schedules, capacity and costs. Siemens Mobility’s Rail Service Center in Munich-Allach helps keep fleets on the move – throughout their lifecycle.

A major European hub for locomotive maintenance

The Rail Service Center in Munich-Allach, one of Europe's leading locomotive maintenance facilities, brings together engineering expertise, digital processes and a state-of-the-art workshop under one roof. Plus, it has now more than tripled its capacity from 25 to 80 revisions/repairs per year, for even faster and more efficient servicing.

Keeping locomotives where they belong – on track

Locomotives operating across Europe need maintenance that fits seamlessly into their operating schedules. Workshop visits should be plannable, efficient and designed to minimize downtime.

The Rail Service Center Munich-Allach is uniquely positioned for high capacity locomotive maintenance. Serving operators across Europe, the facility performs scheduled revisions, accident repairs and technical modifications while also optimizing the long-term performance of modern locomotive fleets.

The close integration of engineering, production and service expertise enables even complex maintenance work to be completed efficiently – all at one location.

Advantages of the Rail Service Center Munich-Allach at a glance:

  • Engineering and workshop expertise in one place
  • Digital-first maintenance planning
  • Faster accident damage repair
  • New: Tripled maintenance capacity with parallel workstreams and four new tracks for simultaneous work
  • New: Even better sustainability and cost savings thanks to “repair instead of replace”

Data exchange means maintenance already begins on the rails

Maintenance begins long before a locomotive enters the workshop. The locomotive itself is now a data source (“intelligent asset”), and the service center an “intelligent depot”. The result is a continuous flow of information between locomotive, operator and service team.

Operational and diagnostic data are analyzed in Railigent X to detect potential issues early on, e.g. braking events or wheel conditions. Our service team in Allach then already knows the vehicle’s condition before arrival and can coordinate spare parts, personnel and work packages ahead of time.

Once the locomotive reaches the depot, paperless workflows and integrated planning tools support every step, ensuring technicians have the right information and materials exactly when needed. This proactive approach shifts maintenance from reactive to predictive – considerably reducing downtime and improving fleet availability.

Ongoing expansion facilitates even more efficient service

The Rail Service Center Munich-Allach is expanding with 3,000 square meters of new workshop space and dedicated workstations. Updated workshop tracks and a redesigned bogie and wheelset workshop enable more parallel work, shorter turnaround times and faster repairs.
