106 multiple units for the S-Bahn Berlin
The consortium “New S-Bahn trains for Berlin”, consisting of Siemens AG and Stadler Pankow GmbH, was awarded the contract for the delivery of 106 multiple units in December 2015 as part of an EU-wide tender. 85 vehicles were designed as four-car units, 21 vehicles are two-car units.
Siemens was responsible for the entire electrical part of the project, from the drive and braking system to the on-board power supply, the vehicle control system as well as the train control and passenger information systems to the bogies of the vehicles.
All 106 multiple units have been successfully in passenger service since September 2023 and are very popular with passengers.
