Nuremberg converter and motor plant
At our Nuremberg converter and motor plant, we develop and produce our converters and drives for rail vehicles. Our mission is as relevant today as ever: “We are the trendsetter for electrical traction systems, providing innovative and platform-based products creating outstanding value for our customers, our employees and Siemens.”
For an electrical group such as Siemens, power electronics represents a core competence. At the converter and motor plant in Nuremberg, besides components for railways we also produce converters and drives for industrial applications.
Traction drive production
When it comes to traction drives, our experts at the converter and motor plant are true professionals. In Nuremberg, a wide range of motors and drives pass through all phases of production – from the machining of housings, to rotor production, all the way to assembly and testing.
The Nuremberg converter and motor plant produces over 1,100 converters per year. Before they’re shipped out for use in vehicles around the world, all components must of course undergo rigorous testing.
Railway technology without the rails
Due to the strict requirements regarding shock and vibration resistance, railway components are ideally suited for the excavation and transportation equipment used in open-cast mining. Experience gained under extreme operating conditions is in turn applied to our development of converters for railway applications.
