Siemens is the only manufacturer with its own test and validation center for railway-typical tests. With its unique test infrastructure, it is the most modern test center of its type in the world. The Test and Validation Center in Wegberg-Wildenrath near Düsseldorf was built on the site of a former military airbase of the Royal Air Force, and went into operation in 1997. The site covers an area of 35 hectares, of which 21,300 m² are built on, providing space for a large number of test options.
