Investing in the Future of Rail in Lexington, North Carolina

Transform the Everyday

With intercity travel continuing to surge, discussions about high-speed rail being revived and public transit rebounding in the post-pandemic world, now is the moment in time for rail in America. As the Unites States’ largest passenger rolling stock manufacturer, we, at Siemens Mobility, will expand our manufacturing footprint by building a $220 million manufacturing and rail services facility in Lexington, NC. The facility will create more than 500 new jobs and be one of the city’s largest employers.

The passenger coach manufacturing facility, as well as first-of-its-kind locomotive and passenger coach overhauls will be on a 200-acre site allowing for future facility expansion. It will build on some of the latest technologies found in our Sacramento rolling stock and rail services factories and will be carbon neutral, enhancing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

We have been transforming the way Americans travel since the 1980’s. This investment in American rail allows us to continue add to our over 2,000 U.S-based suppliers, more than 3,000 vehicles, and over 4,000 employees who are working to transform the future of rail in America.

Our East Coast Hometown

The passenger coach manufacturing facility will be located in Lexington, NC home to nearly 20,000. Located in the Piedmont Triad: a commerce hub with easy access to transportation and a strong workforce, home to three cities: Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. Our new facility will be the first-of-its-kind locomotive and passenger coach overhauls, and will be on a 200-acre site allowing for future facility expansion. Building on some of the latest technologies found in our Sacramento rolling stock and rail services factories, the new facility will include robotic welding, 3D printing, and Virtual Reality weld training, as well as software tools to enhance our manufacturing process. In addition, when fully operational, the facility will be carbon neutral, enhancing the company’s commitment to sustainability – not only in the products produced, but also leading its own operations.

The history of our investment in America

What began as a small vehicle assembly facility in Pittsburgh in 1983 and later expanded into a full-scale rolling stock manufacturing facility in Sacramento, Siemens Mobility's legacy of American manufacturing and investing in local communities has spanned more than four decades.

Today, thousands of proud workers across the country build and service a growing rail portfolio that now includes rolling stock, rail automation, customer service and rail electrification. Once a small final assembly building on a tiny piece of land is now eight sprawling manufacturing facilities across the country where we have invested $150 million in California facilities alone over the past 15 years– and our continued success in the industry is now bringing us to Lexington, NC where we will open our ninth location.
