Located at the heart of Davidson County, our state-of-the-art factory is not only Siemens Mobility’s largest U.S. investment - it’s a catalyst for transformative growth and a thriving local economy.
Siemens Mobility has been an integral provider of rail solutions in the United States for more than 160 years. Our new east coast hub in Lexington will create more than 500 local jobs by 2028– building and servicing trains that will roll through towns across America.

As we embark on this exciting journey in Lexington, our facility will proudly manufacture world-class passenger coaches designed for a wide array of transit operators across North America. Every train we build is a promise—to deliver transformative journeys that empower operators, delight riders, and move America forward.
As the first U.S. rail facility of its kind, Lexington will feature cutting-edge technologies such as robotic welding, 3D printing, and advanced software tools to optimize our entire manufacturing process.
The new Lexington facility will work in tandem with Siemens Mobility’s established rail manufacturing hub in Sacramento, California, enhancing our ability to serve the entire United States and strengthen our production capacity nationwide.

Our commitment begins with the creation of over 500 new jobs spanning skilled trades, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and logistics—delivering meaningful opportunities for local residents and tapping into the strength of a skilled workforce.
But the impact goes far beyond job numbers. This investment acts as a catalyst for the region, generating significant economic momentum that energizes local businesses, strengthens services, and uplifts families throughout the area. It is estimated to grow the state’s economy by $1.6 billion by 2035.
Our investment also champions U.S. suppliers, fostering a robust domestic supply chain for rail components and supporting American industry at every level.
The history of our investment in America
What began as a small vehicle assembly facility in Pittsburgh in 1983 and later expanded into a full-scale rolling stock manufacturing facility in Sacramento, Siemens Mobility's legacy of American manufacturing and investing in local communities has spanned more than four decades.
Today, thousands of proud workers across the country build and service a growing rail portfolio that now includes rolling stock, rail automation, customer service and rail electrification. Once a small assembly building on a tiny piece of land is now eight sprawling manufacturing facilities across the country – and our continued success in the industry is now bringing us to Lexington, NC where we will open our ninth location.
Partners across North Carolina and America
- In North Carolina, we have invested $15 million with 75 suppliers based in North Carolina.
- One local supplier, Transit Sourcing Services, has been a specialty supplier to the passenger rail industry headquartered in North Carolina since 1994. Transit Sourcing Services is also a woman-owned small business.
- Transit Sourcing Services has partnered with Siemens Mobility for the last 10 years on various light rail projects across the country. Supplying hundreds of thousands of wheels and axles to transit agencies and suppliers across North America, Transit Sourcing Services is a proud proponent of rail across America and is continually investing in new technology in an effort to transform rail for the next generation.
