Siemens Mobility shortlisted to design and build trainsets for California High-Speed Rail
- Trainsets will offer state-of-the-art passenger experience
- Trainsets to emit zero emissions for a more sustainable future
Siemens Mobility has been shortlisted by the California High-Speed Rail Authority to supply and maintain the trainsets for the high-speed rail project under construction in the state. Now poised to respond to the Request for Proposal, Siemens Mobility will detail how its trainsets are best for the project. Set to help mitigate climate change by being carbon neutral and electrified, California High-Speed Rail will eventually connect California from north to south at 220 mph, spanning nearly 500 miles between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
“On behalf of our more than 2,500 employees in the state of California and our 4,500 across the United States, we congratulate the Authority on the progress of this transformational project and are proud to be shortlisted for the California High-Speed Rail trainsets,” said Michael Cahill, President of Rolling Stock for Siemens Mobility North America. “For more than 40 years, we’ve designed, built and delivered passenger rail vehicles, right here in Sacramento. We know that our high-speed trains, with wide aisles, connectivity, and comfort, not only will meet the needs of passengers, but also will help the state meet its sustainability goals with its compatibility to green energy sources.”
This project will be funded, in part, by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Federal-State Partnership Grant, which awarded California High-Speed Rail Authority $3.1 billion in federal funding and was announced in December. This investment further highlights the Administration and policymakers’ commitment to making high-speed rail a reality in the United States and complements the State of California’s support for the project since its inception.
Our American high-speed trainsets are built on the global success of Siemens Mobility’s high-speed rail experience and will transport travelers at 220mph. High-speed rail continues to be one of the safest modes of transportation and Siemens Mobility’s high-speed trains have traveled billions of miles, connecting communities, driving economies and creating a more sustainable transportation network. Siemens Mobility trainsets are the most accessible high-speed rail trainsets on the market and ensure passengers in wheelchairs can seamlessly move from car to car throughout the entire trainset. It also provides a greener and more efficient travel experience than alternative modes by using green energy and being 100% electrified.
Siemens has been a national asset moving America forward for more than 160 years, investing $3 billion in the United States over the past four years while serving the industries and infrastructure forming the backbone of the American economy. From the first vehicle delivered to San Diego in 1984 to the 30,000 rail crossings across America, Siemens Mobility contributes to the power of connection, jobs and investment in America. With eight manufacturing facilities, and more than 2,000 suppliers across the United States, Siemens Mobility, which is headquartered in New York, NY, looks forward to expanding the built in America for Americans story for true high-speed rail, including promoting and expanding small business and disadvantaged business enterprise participation across the California and the nation.
