The topic of sustainable mobility and the expansion of the public transport network is currently the subject of intense debate in politics and among the general public. In addition to the European Commission's action plan published in December 2021, the coalition agreement of the new German government also highlights an acute need for action. This envisages a doubling of rail passenger traffic by 2030 and an increase in the share of rail freight traffic to 25 percent.
