The following article describes the technical solution for the modernisation of the Basel SBB RB2 marshalling yard at the railway hub in Basel (Switzerland). Its special gradient characteristics make Basel SBB RB2 a truly unique marshalling yard from a technical and operating perspective. Siemens Mobility GmbH was commissioned to renovate and future-proof this yard. At the same time, great importance was also placed on preserving and integrating the facility’s older components and the interfaces to the existing systems.
