Autonomous driving has been a key innovation topic in the mobility sector for many years. In the railway sector, fully automatic driving in the metro sector is already state of the art. This article addresses the challenges of automation in the mainline sector and the question how these developments are already taken into account today in new vehicle generations. Using examples, it will be shown how Siemens Mobility is gradually implementing full automation and which regulatory requirements result from this.
