The ATO-RISK project commissioned by the German Centre for Rail Transport Research (DZSF) aimed to derive “risk acceptance criteria for automated driving on rail”. An important aspect of this is the validation of the results. In addition, numerous findings have been obtained during the work that are also of interest for other applications. Therefore, after a short summary of the basic approach of the ATO-RISK project, the results of the validation are initially explained and then discussed using the important example of obstacle detection. Finally, overarching findings are presented and discussed.
