Digital services for railways
With growing transportation demands and the push for decarbonization, railway capacities are becoming increasingly vital for cities, regions, and countries. Ensuring the reliability and availability of these systems over lifespans of 30 years and more is crucial, while also embracing innovation to ensure that railway remains a highly attractive mode of transportation in the future.

As digitalization progresses and the role of software in railway systems expands, safeguarding these systems from cyber threats and keeping train IT up to date and cybersecure are becoming increasingly important.
Our digital services support customers on this journey.
- Railigent X, the suite of services and applications, helps railway companies maximize the value of their existing rail assets by making informed decisions based on asset operations and condition data.
- Automated measurement and monitoring solutions such as vehicle equipment measurement systems (VEMS) enable continuous condition monitoring of rolling stock and tracks, increase asset availability and free up maintenance capacities.
- Additionally, our professional and managed digital services, including IT care services and cybersecurity services, help maintenance organizations to manage rail software and IT systems, ensuring they remain up-to-date and secure against cyber threats.
AI-driven analytics and decision support for rail

Better maintenance decisions through AI
One example is the Railigent X Health States application, which can be used to make better maintenance decisions: If, for example, the onboard train diagnostic system reports a possible failure, Railigent X uses AI-based insights to provide important data for deciding whether the train needs to be brought in for maintenance early. With the Railigent X Remaining Useful Life application, the optimal time for the next maintenance interval is predicted based on AI. This makes it possible to optimally plan maintenance interventions.

AI-powered pit stops for rolling stock
AI-powered service solutions have already become a reality and are continuing to develop: for example, at the Rail Service Center (RSC) in the city of Dortmund in north-west German, AI is helping to significantly reduce the downtime of trains in the Rhein-Ruhr-Express (RRX) fleet and achieve a system availability of almost 100%. It provides decision-making support for maintenance, analyzes measured values for anomalies, and predicts failures.

IT care services – ensuring availability and functionality of train and wayside IT
The market requirements are changing. Every year, more IT is entering the rail industry, e.g., for the bidirectional interaction between trains and wayside. But the lifecycles of IT and trains differ greatly. Trains have lifecycles of more than 30 years. IT lifecycles are typically around 5 to 10 years.
That’s where our IT care services come in: they sustain and enhance the functionality, operational reliability, and security of Siemens Mobility’s Seamless IT Solutions on trains and at the wayside, across the vehicle lifecycle. Experienced Siemens experts provide support around the clock and ensure fast system recovery in case of incidents.
EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) – ensuring cybersecurity of products
The Cyber Resilience Act is the first European regulation that sets a minimum level of cybersecurity for all connected products available on the EU market. Its goal is to enhance cybersecurity within the European Union.
What does it mean for our digital services? It means you can count on our vulnerability management and the provision of security updates during the support period. Further opportunities for handling CRA obligations depend on the service contracts with our customers.
