Our Story

Siemens Mobility has over 160 years’ experience in the UK rail industry. Our 3,500 employees enable people to connect with their friends, family and work all across the country.

In the UK, we work with around 3,000 suppliers, 47% of which are UK-based SMEs. In addition, about 90% of our spend is with UK-based suppliers, which supports around 56,000 UK jobs with a further 17,500 in our supply chain. We are ideally placed to provide expert advice in the transport and infrastructure sectors.

We have sites across the whole of the country, from the south coast of England to the north of Scotland. They include factories in Ashby, Chippenham and Poole which manufacture and test railway information and station management systems, railway signalling systems and train cab radio equipment for the UK and global export markets.

Our latest location - a new train manufacturing site in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, will create up to 700 direct jobs, with a further 250 roles created during the construction phase and an additional 1,700 indirect supply chain opportunities. It is scheduled to open in Autumn 2023.

We identify faults before they occur, identify the correct resolution and optimise the maintenance schedule to achieve highest availability and reliability to keep trains on schedule. From our Bogie Service Centre in Lincoln, Traction Drives in Leeds, network of rail depots and expert engineering support teams, we've got your covered. At Siemens Mobility, we live Zero Harm - ensuring adherance to all safety procedures for a safe work environment and safe transportation. 

…supporting the UK economy

We are committed to the government's aim of rebalancing the UK economy - with our train manufacturing facility in Goole creating 700 jobs and 1700 indirect jobs. With the factory and an onsite R&D and digital innovation cluster serving the UK rail sector, our goal is to create a Centre of Excellence for Rail Technology. When complete in 2023, the state-of-the-art factory will manufacture and commission trains – the first of which will be new Tube trains for London’s Piccadilly line with plans for additional train manufacture in the future. This could include additional vehicles for the Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo & City line Tube trains, plus mainline suburban and intercity trains.

…reliable UK rail transport through proven engineering and digital technologies

Our Digital Services team use data to develop tailored solutions for our customers for execution, performance management and decision support. Rail transport is made more efficient, reliable and safe thanks to condition-based monitoring, data analysis and predictive maintenance concepts. Trains can produce 700-800 million data points annually and Railigent is our IoT cloud based platform that converts that data into useful information to support decision making to improve cost, availability and passenger experience. Train-generated data also provides train operators with powerful insights into how their assets are being used to support timetable planning and service improvement.

…innovative and sustainable rail transport

We are committed to decarbonisation - with our own global Siemens Mobility targets of decarbonisation by 2030. Siemens Mobility is one of the world's biggest investors in technology R&D, spending more than 5.4 billion euros and this is demonstrated throughout our UK business. We partner with the leading UK universities in rail research. Our partnership with the University of Birmingham was recognised with a PraxisAuril Knowledge Exchange award for the best in class business-academic collaboration. The partnership involves the University of Birmingham's collaboration in the new Rail Accelerator and Innovations Solutions Hub for Enterprise (RaisE). This major R&D facility at our Goole site will accelerate collaboration and develop a strong ecosystem and innovation pipeline for railways.
