Acting sustainably - ambition, opportunity, commitment
For us, sustainability means acting responsibly for the benefit of future generations - economically, ecologically and socially.
Demographic change, urbanisation, climate change and globalisation - megatrends influence and determine the lives of people and the economy all over the world. They are also drivers of our business as they open up new markets and business opportunities for us. However, they also entail risks that must be dealt with responsibly. Only a value-based company that makes sustainability its guiding principle can meet these challenges by making the best possible use of opportunities for all its stakeholders, minimizing risks and consistently living its values.
Sustainability is a word that is used in many contexts. But what does it stand for in the context of a global technology company? For Siemens Mobility, sustainability is not a mere lip service. The three dimensions of sustainable development - economic, ecological and social - determine our actions.
Acting responsibly for a successful future
From an ecological point of view, we improve both our own environmental balance and that of our customers and suppliers through innovative products and solutions. From an economic point of view, we focus on long-term value creation. And in social terms, we promote our employees and are committed to our social environment.
Decisions are not always free of conflicting goals - our aim is to make them transparent and to find the best possible solution. Responsible use of natural resources, targeted investments in sustainable technologies that enable profitable growth and offer our customers a competitive advantage, as well as corporate ethics that go beyond compliance with laws and regulations and focus on integrity: In this way, we operate sustainably and at the same time create the basis for a successful future for our company.
Sustainability and corporate values
Our understanding of sustainability is closely linked to our corporate values: responsible, excellent, innovative. It becomes tangible against the background of our history. Werner von Siemens has already written this maxim into his company's family book: to be responsible in dealing with employees, our social environment and natural resources. To be excellent and to occupy leading positions in the markets of the future. And finally, to be innovative in the technological field and to contribute to the sustainability of modern civilization: This has always been an ambiton and motivation for us.

Compliance and integrity go hand in hand
Siemens shows zero tolerance toward corruption, violations of the principles of fair competition and other breaches of the law – and where these do occur, we take swift action. But compliance means much more than just adhering to laws and to the regulations described in the Siemens Business Conduct Guidelines. Compliance forms the basis for all our decisions and activities, and it is the key to integrity when conducting business. Our premise is this: Only clean business is Siemens business. What is the Siemens compliance system?
Our Compliance System is divided into three levels of action: prevent, detect and respond. Preventative measures include, for example, compliance risk management, guidelines and procedures, and comprehensive training and advising of employees. Communication channels such as our “Tell us” reporting system and ombudsperson as well as fair internal investigations are indispensable to recognizing and resolving matters of misconduct. Unambiguous responses and clear consequences serve to punish misconduct and eliminate weaknesses. The responsibility all managers carry for compliance is the overarching element above these three levels.
