What is a Vectrain?
A Vectrain is a passenger train consisting of a Vectron X locomotive and VectrainReady passenger coaches. An identifying feature of a Vectrain is a Vectron X Cab at each end of the train.
VectrainReady passenger coaches are designed to allow seamless operation with Vectron X locomotives, especially in cross-border operation. The train’s operational philosophy and cab hardware are identical to the Vectron X locomotive. Consequently, a Vectrain can be equipped with a variety of different train protection systems and makes use of the Vectron X long list which already obtained country homologations.
VectrainReady passenger coaches use Siemens' open Loco-Coach interface (WTB-ÖBB, ÖBB Door Control or TB0 and other established standards). A VectrainReady cab car uses the Vectron X Cab (HW and SW incl. frontend, driver's desk, and ATP systems). Siemens offers the Vectouro as „VectrainReady“ coach to bring your Push-Pull-Train on tracks, complemented by our customer service offering.

Flexibility crossing borders
The Vectron X locomotives and Vectrain cabs are equipped with national train safety systems (class B) and ETCS for seamless cross-border transport. The numerous country packages already authorized enable the deployment of a wide range of different train configurations on Europe’s international passenger routes. Vectrain thus stands for straightforward cross-border transport at speeds of up to 230 km/h – without waiting times or having to change trains at border stations.
Flexibility in operation mode
Push-pull operation makes time-consuming shunting unnecessary – although the locomotive and coaches remain interchangeable.

When it comes to bidirectional operation, Vectrain has opted for a clear standard that relies on proven locomotive/coach interfaces: UIC coupling, UIC cabling, plus the use of WTB ÖBB and ÖBB door control. You are thus free to choose your preferred Vectron X with the appropriate country package.

Thanks to the many authorized Vectron X variants available in conjunction with simple coach authorization, the Vectrain concept allows you to deploy your rolling stock in many areas across Europe. The cab car uses the same driver’s desk and can be equipped with various train protection systems. If you want to continue your journey, just add a Vectron X with the appropriate country package.
Flexibility in train configuration
Couple or uncouple passenger coaches overnight or use the various Vectron X variants to address changing requirements.
Thanks to the modular single-car concept and the wide choice of available variants, you can adapt capacities to your actual requirements quickly and flexibly – at weekends or peak holiday periods, for instance. The various coach types are easily replaced, removed, or added. The numerous different types of coaches and international authorizations are the foundation for the flexible use of Vectrain.

Thanks to established, standardized interfaces, our pioneering locomotive offers a comprehensive range of functions required for transporting passengers – including emergency braking, door control and multiple elements of communication with passenger coaches. Almost every country from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia can be linked by means of just two or three Vectron X variants. Numerous Vectron X variants have already been authorized, are continuously maintained and thus available as products at no risk to you. More than 2500 Vectron X locomotives sold ensure that your investment is safe and that your rolling stock remains viable in the future.
