The new airfree brake system from Siemens Brakes

With the new electric fiction brake system, the friction brake in rail vehicles is controlled entirely by electricity for the first time (brake-by-wire). Railway gear units now under the Siemens brand

What have long been part of Siemens – rail transmissions from Siemens Traction Gears Penig GmbH – now bear the Siemens brand. After the power transmission specialist Flender was acquired by Siemens AG in 2005, they were marketed under the Flender brand. With the sale of Flender to Carlyle, use of the Flender product brand ceased. Our rail transmissions now appear under the Siemens brand as part of the MoComp portfolio.

On track for success with hydrogen

How will regional trains on non-electrified tracks run in the future? For Dr. Martin Schneider, the answer is clear: Most will run on hydrogen. But first, the necessary infrastructure must be established for its production, transport, and fuelling. And that is exactly what he’s working on right now at Siemens Energy, together with Siemens Mobility. He shares what that means in this interview.

The Mireo Plus platform points the way to the future of sustainable rail transport. The Mireo Plus B’s drive was successfully tested in Austria on a prototype train, the Cityjet eco. Jochen Steinbauer, Director of Development for Alternative Drives at Siemens Mobility, talks about the strengths of battery-powered trains and explains what sets Mireo Plus B apart from the competition.

Cost-effectiveness is no longer an argument against sustainability

Even highly developed networks like Germany’s can only justify electrifying about 50 percent of their lines. But the Mireo Plus offers many alternatives to costly electrification.

More ecological means more economical

The Vectron Dual Mode runs on diesel fuel and also under electrical power (with a 15 kV overhead wire).
